SMS access growing rapidly in Africa
According to 160characters.org, "the number of people in Africa that can send and recieve international text messages has nearly doubled in the last year to 180 million". Compare this to the 44 million people in Africa who have Internet access. And it looks like governments are taking notice.

According to some research, 47 percent of high-school students text message one to four hours a day. Wow. The research also claims that the behavior of those surveyed borders on an addiction.

Subway franchises find success with SMS promotions
Subway franchises in Seattle and Buffalo have started offering coupons via an opt-in SMS program, and apparently its been successful at bringing in more business.
